PHY 111 Astronomy Web SitesThis page is just a STARTING point for your searches.
If you find additional sites that you want to share with the class, e-mail me the
address of the site and brief description of what is there and I will add it to the list
below.
Sky and Telescope This is the home page of Sky and Telescope magazine. They post weekly updates of what's new in astronomy and provide links to many other sources of astronomical information. Look under "Resources" to find the links.
Astronomy Picture of the Day
This site is maintained by professional astronomers. Each day a new "cool"
picture is chosen for display and an explanation of what is in the picture is provided.
Many of the pictures are related to recent discoveries in astronomy. An archive of past
pictures of the day is searchable for information on a particular topic.
The Planetary Society This is the homepage of an
organization of scientists and amateurs with interests in the exploration of the solar
system. It provides information on upcoming NASA missions to the other planets, new
discoveries in the solar system and of planets around other stars.
SEDS This homepage is maintained by the
University of Arizona chapter of Students for the Exploration and Development of Space. It
contains lots of information including a "Hot Topics" section which is nicely
done.
Cosmic Mystery Tour This site contains information on topics related to the evolution of the universe.
Astroweb A student in a previous class recommended this web site which must have a link to every astronomy site in existence (literally hundreds of sites).
MarsMission This site contains lots of info about the current Mars missions as well as past and future missions to Mars.
