  Main Objectives

 

bulletYou should be able to write a paragraph describing the distinctive features of each planet and its major moons (if any).   This means complete sentences -- not a list of facts.
bulletYou should be able to discuss the differences between the compositions of the Jovian and terrestrial planets.
bulletYou should be able to discuss:
bulletthe relationship between "shepherd" moons and planetary rings.
bulletthe evidence for and against the theory that Pluto is an escaped moon of Neptune.
bullethow we measure the masses of the planets.
bulletYou should be able to discuss the dynamo effect explanation of planetary magnetic fields and give evidence for and against it.
Tuesday Begin discussion of the individual planets.

Outside of class: Read Ch. 9.   Go over the Chapter 8 review questions.  Complete Ch. 8 Questions to Ponder 2, 3, and 7 to be turned in on Thursday.

Thursday Complete discussion of the planets and their major moons.

Outside of class: Read  Chapter 10 and Ch. 7 Sections 6-7. Go over the Chapter 9 review questions. Complete Ch. 9 Questions to Ponder 9, 10, and 12 to be turned in next Tuesday.
