  Main Objectives
bulletBe able to describe both Ptolemy's and Copernicus's model of the solar system
bulletBe able to state Kepler's three laws of planetary motion.
bulletBe able to list the major discoveries that Galileo made with his telescope and explain how each provided evidence against the geocentric model of the solar system.
bulletBe able to place the most significant players in our history of astronomy (Brahe, Kepler, Galileo, Copernicus, Aristotle, Ptolemy) in their appropriate place in history.   
Tuesday Complete the discussion of measurements made by Greek astronomers.  Discuss and compare the models of Ptolemy and Copernicus.

Outside of class: Read Chapter 2 Sections 3-5 and Chapter 3 Sec. 1. 

Thursday Discuss the discoveries of Tycho, Kepler, and Galileo

Outside of class: Read Chapter 3 sections 2-4 and handouts. Start reviewing for your exam on Thursday.  Take advantage of the various study aids on the text website.   Complete Ch.2 calculations 3 and 5 to be turned in on Tuesday.
