PHY 121 Week 14

  Main Objectives:

For each of the alternative energy systems,

be able to discuss the basic science principles on which it is based
be able to discuss its advantages and disadvantages
know whether it is most appropriate for large scale or small scale operations
know what, if any, environmetal problems are associated with its use
know what, if any, technical problems need to be solved before it can be widely used
Monday Exam IV on Chapters 10, 11 and part of 13.

Outside of class:   Read Ch. 12 pages 324-345 and Ch. 3 Sec. 5.

Wednesday Student presentations on active solar energy and Oil Shale/Oil Sands.

Outside of class:  Read Ch. 13 Sec. 7.  Complete Ch. 12 homework questions: 7, 8, 17, 19, and 21.  Complete Ch. 3 homework questions: 8 and 10.
Friday Student presentation on hydrogen as a fuel source.  Discuss exam IV.

Outside of class: Read Chapter 12 pages 345 -349 and Chapter 13 section 3.
