PHY 121 Week 4

  Main Objectives:
Be able to discuss how fossil fuels are formed.
Know where the major reserves of each fossil fuel is located.
Know what the primary use of each fossil fuel is.
Be able to distinguish between proven and unproven reserves.
Be able to discuss the major advantages and disadvantages of each fossil fuel.
Be able to define exponential growth
Know what is meant by doubling time and be able to calcuate it from growth rate
Monday Lecture on fossil fuels.  (You do not need to read Ch. 3 until after the exam.)

Outside of class:   Prepare for Monday's exam on Chapters 1 and 2.
Wednesday Exam I on Chapters 1 and 2

Outside of class: Read Ch. 3 Sections 1-5.  Do questions 4 and 7. 

Friday Begin discussion of exponential growth looking at both growth of energy use and population growth.

Outside of class: Read Ch. 3 Sections 6-7.   Do Ch. 3 questions 12, 14, 17, and 18.
