Chapter 20
Be able to describe charging by induction and conduction, the types of charge, neutral
objects and the atomic view of matter for charge.
Understand a dipole and hydrogen bonding.
Know how to apply the superpostion principle
Understand Coulomb's Law, the Electric Field of point charges, uniform Electric Field and
solving vector problems
Be able to apply electric field lines, charges on conductors and conductors in electric
fields.
Know how to calculate torgues on dipoles in uniform electric fields.
Chapter 21
Understand the electric potential energy and the electric potential for points charges and
uniform electric fields.
Know lines of equipotential, their relation to field lines and conductors in equilibrium.
Know the connection between electric potentials electric fields and how to determine one
from the other.
Understand the electrocardiogram.
Understand capacitors and solving circuit problems involving capacitors (Q, V, PE, Ceq,
Energy)
Know how the dielectric constant and dielectric strength are applied to capacitors.
Chapter 22
Be able to describe qualitatively what's happening in a wire carrying a current
Understand conservation of charge, and Kirchhoff's junction law.
Understand batteries and sources of potential.
Be able to discuss the meaning of resistance, resistivity and superconductivity.
Be able to use Ohm's law to know in what circumstances it is applicable
Be able to calculate the power being dissipated in a resistor or produced by a battery
