Main Objectives
 | Be able to state Newton's first and second laws of motion |
 | Be able to use the laws of motion to explain physical events such as what happens during
automobile accidents and how air bags protect passengers. |
 | Be able to distinguish between mass, weight, and apparent weight |
 | Be able to draw freebody diagrams for any situation |
 | Be able solve motion problems in one-dimension using F=ma |

Exam I on Chapters 1-3. Outside of class:
Read Ch. 4 Sec. 1-5 and 7. Do Ch. 4 workbook exercises 3, 5, 7, 8, 10, 11, 25, 27,
and 28. |
| Thursday |
Demonstrations and discussion related to Newton's second law.
Begin to practice problem solving strategies starting with equilibrium problems. Outside
of class: Read Ch 4 Sec. 6 and Ch. 5 Sec. 1-2. Do Chapter 5
workbook exercises 6, 7, 10, 11, 13, and 15. Complete Ch 4 textbook exercises 9, 37, and
44 to be turned in tomorrow. |
| Friday |
Lots more practice problems with and without friction. Outside
of class: Read Ch. 5 Sec. 3-6. Do workbook exercises 20, 21, 22, 24, 27, 29 and
31. Complete Ch. 5 textbook exercises 4, 6, 7, 10, 25, 27, and 32 to be
turned in on Tuesday. |
