Week 6

  Main Objectives
bulletBe able to identify action/reaction pairs of forces
bulletBe able to apply Newton's third law to situations involving the motion of mulitple interacting objects
bulletUnderstand tension forces and how the mass of the rope affects the tension in the rope
bulletBe able to apply Newton's laws to motion in a circle
bulletUnderstand the roles of radial acceleration and tangential acceleration in nonuniform circular motion
bulletBe able to answer questions such as "How does the water stay in the bucket?"
Tuesday Discuss Newton's Third Law.  Work Fnet = ma problems for situations with multiple objects.

Outside of class: Read Ch. 8 Sec. 5 and Ch. 7 Sec 1-3. Do Ch. 7 workbook exercises 1-4 and 7.  Complete Ch. 8 homework problems 4, 13, 20, and 26 for Thursday.

Thursday More Fnet = ma problems.  Use circular motion to review kinematics and freebody diagrams.

Outside of class:  Read Ch. 7 Sec. 4-6.  Do Ch. 7 workbook exercises 15, 19, and 21. Complete Complete Ch. 8 problem 36 and Ch.7 problems 2, 6, 9, 14, 34, and 36 for Friday.

Friday Discuss fictitious forces and weightlessness.  See rest of Frames of Reference film.

Outside of class:  Review for Tuesday''s exam on Ch. 4-8.
