PHY 182, Spring, 2005

Week 11

  Main Objectives:
  • Be able to discuss magnetic forces and fields qualitatively.  This includes effects of magnetic poles on one another and on non-magnetized objects, magnetic monopoles, magnetic field lines, the Earth's magnetic field, magnetic domains, and permeability.
  • Be able to distinguish between diamagnetic, paramagnetic, and ferromagnetic materials.
  • Be able to use the law of Biot-Savart to find the magnetic fields of constant currents
  • Be able to use Ampere's Law to determine magnetic fields.
Tuesday Exam on Chapters 28-31.

Outside of class:  Read Ch. 32 Sec. 1-3 and 10.  Complete Ch. 32 workbook exercises 3, 4, 8, 9, and 10.
