Week 13

  Main Objectives:
  • Be able to discuss resonance in an LRC circuit
  • Be able to explain how transformers work
  • Be able to discuss the importance of phase in an AC circuit
  • Be able to define inductive and capacitive reactance, be able to explain in what ways they are similar to resistance, and be able to explain why it makes sense that they depend on frequency
  • Be able to discuss the basic nature of electromagnetic waves
  • Be able to state Maxwell's equations
Tuesday Continue discussion of circuits containing both inductors and capacitors. Discuss AC circuits and transformers.

Outside of class:  Read Ch. 34 Sec. 1-5.  Complete Ch. 34 workbook exercises 3, 4, and 5.  Complete Ch. 35 homework: 6, 10, 21, 23, 50, and 53.  (Due Thursday)

Thursday Finish up anything leftover from Tuesday.  Discuss electromagnetic waves and Maxwell's equations.

Outside of class:  Review for Exam IV on Chapters 32 - 35.

Friday No class today - I'll be away at a conference.
