  Main Objectives:
  • Be able to discuss the results of the Michelson-Morley experiment
  • Be able to state the postulates of special relativity
  • Be able to explain why observers moving relative to one another cannot agree on whether events happened simultaneously
  • Be able to solve problems involving  length contraction, time dilation and velocity addition.
  • Be able to explain why Albert thinks Henry's clock runs slow. (from film)
Tuesday Exam IV on Chapters 32-35.

Outside of class:  Read Ch. 36 Sec 1-3.  Complete Ch. 36 workbook exercises 1, 2, 6, and 7.

Thursday Go over exam.  View and discuss Mechanical Universe program "The Michelson-Morley Experiment" 

Outside of class:  Read  Ch. 36 Sec 4-6.  Complete Ch. 36 workbook exercises 10, 11, 14, 17, and 20.

Friday View and discuss Mechanical Universe program "The Lorentz Transformation"  Begin practice with length contraction and time dilation problems.

Outside of class:    Read Ch. 36 Sec 7-10.  Complete Ch. 36 workbook exercises:  22, 26, 27, 30 and 31.  Complete Ch. 36 homework: 2, 4, 12, 16, 18, 23, 24, 31, and 33.  (Due Tuesday)
