Week 4

Main Objectives:
  • Be able to use Coulomb's law to find the force on a charged object.  (Note: This includes remembering how to add vectors.)
  • Be able to explain why a charged object attracts a neutral one.
  • Be able to explain how charging by induction takes place.
  • Be able to explain the difference between polarization of a conductor and polarization of an insulator.
Tuesday Optional help session.
Thursday Exam I on Chapters 16, 17, 18, and 19.

Outside of class:  Read (again) Ch. 25 Sec. 1-4.  Complete workbook exercises 4, 5, 9, 15 and 16.

Friday Group exercises to review electric charge.
Discuss charging by induction.

Outside of class: Read Ch.25 Sec. 5-6.   Complete workbook exercises 22, 23, 29, 30, and 33.  Complete Ch. 25 homework:   6, 14, 15, 30, 40, 50, and 859. (Due Tuesday)
