Week 3 Assignments

Main Objectives for Week:
- Understand what a scientist means by the "uncertainty" in a measurement
- Be able to use uncertainties to decide if two measurements are definitely the same,
possible the same, or definitely different
- Understand what a scientist means by the term "operational definition"
- Develop operational definitions of mass, length, area, and volume.
- Practice different ways of measuring volume.
- Learn to make measurements including uncertainties with graduated cylinders.

Complete all of Section 4. Outside of class: Complete
exercises 5.1, 5.2, 5.3, 5.4 in your notebook before tomorrow's class. Complete
homework question 4.1. |
| Wednesday |
Complete exercises 5.5, 5.6 and 5.7 and experiment 6.1. (The
original schedule said we would review for the exam today, but I've decided it makes more
sense to wait until closer to the exam. We will review during part of class on
Monday.) Outside of class: Complete homework questions 4.2 and 4.3
for Friday. Begin reviewing for next week's exam. |

Complete 6.2 through 6.10. Outside of class:
Complete 6.11 and 6.12 in your notebook. Complete homework problems 6.1, 6.2,
and 6.3 to be turned in Monday. |
