Week 7 Assignments

  Main Objectives for Week:
  • Understand the difference between the meaning of "influence" and "determine" in experimental science
  • Continue to think about control of variables
  • Develop operational definitions of "sink" and "float"
  • Explore the variables that influence the sinking and floating of objects
  • Discover what determines whether an object will sink or float in a given liquid
Monday We will do most of sections 12.1, 12.2, 12.4, 12.6, and 12.8 as a large group.  If we finish this before class is over, you will begin Chapter 14.

Outside of class: Complete sections 12.5A, 12.5C, and 12.10 in your notebook.  Complete homework problem 12.6.  Eventually you should read over all of Chapter 12.   However, if you are still working on getting caught up, you can postpone reading it until after the exam.

Wednesday Review for exam.

Outside of class: Prepare for exam.

Friday For the first half of class, you will begin Chapter 14.  You should try to get sections 14.1 through 14.4 done.  (This chapter continues to work on many of the same concepts as sections 9 and 10, so it should be a good warm-up for the exam.)  If you complete through 14.4 in class, work on it at home this weekend.

Second half of class will be an exam on Chapters 7 through 13 except not on Chapter 12.   Energy will also be covered on the exam.

Outside of class:   Complete homework problems A.3, 14.1 and 14.2.
